Sunday, 14 March 1999, we -- me and my parents -- visited the Kitt Peak National Observatory.

Kitt Peak is a 7000-or-so-foot high mountain southwest of Tucson.  The altitude, and distance from the pollution centers that cities tend to be, give it clear air suitable for telescopes.  That morning's tour was to the solar telescope.
